Corneal topography system - SIRIUS topographer & Topolyzer Vario, two
devices that scan the cornea and image the anterior and posterior surface of the
cornea to help detect any abnormalities. Topolyzer also makes it possible to
perform customized laser refractive surgery based on topography maps. SIRIUS
topographer also allows analysis of the tear film, and meibomian gland imaging,
besides surgical planning of implantation of INTACS segments, and contact lens
fitting. It also allows imaging of the anterior segment, useful for glaucoma
assessment, and phakic IOL planning.
Optovue OCT scans the cornea and provides a cross section scan image of the
cornea, provides regional pachymetry, true corneal power measurement,
epithelial mapping, besides anterior chamber analysis.
Wavefront analyzer is a sophisticated diagnostic device which analyzes the subtle
anomalies or imperfections in the optical system of the eye. This data can be
used to perform wavefront guided laser treatment procedures to treat the
optical imperfections and achieve perfect vision.
Specular microscope allows imaging of endothelial cells, the innermost layer of
the cornea. Topcon specular microscope provides an excellent view of this layer
along with a detailed analysis. Konan Eyebank specular microscope provides a
similar analysis on donor corneas for corneal transplantation surgery.
Humphrey perimetry is useful to perform visual field testing, which is an essential
part of glaucoma assessment.

| Cornea Clinic, is equipped with the Ziemer Z6 femtosecond laser (the only one in South India), and Wavelight EX500 Excimer laser system from Alcon, the fastest excimer laser available. Ziemer Z6 femtosecond laser is the only laser system to fire pulses in nanojoules (whereas all other lasers fire pulses in microjoules), which allows atraumatic separation of corneal layers. The high repetition rate allows pulses to be placed more closely and facilitates easier separation of layers. Wavelight EX 500 excimer laser system, is precise and fast, treating 1 diopter of error in just 1.3 seconds. The online pachymetry allows measurement of corneal thickness during treatment. Its the only excimer laser system to allow various treatment modalities such as wavefront optimized / wavefront guided / topography guided / Q factor guided treatments. With the precision in microns, and ability to treat a wide variety of refractive erros including myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism. These treatments are US FDA approved with proven safety, efficacy, predictability & safety. |
| Surgical procedures are performed in a modular operation theater (all steel) maintaining high standards of sterile environment, and patient safety as per JCI guidelines. The OT is equipped with Zeiss Lumera operating microscope, and phacoemulsification machines including Alcon Infinity, AMO Soverign, and Bausch & Lomb Stellaris. Cataract surgery is a day care procedure, performed under topical anesthesia (ie with eyedrops), via micro incision (2mm), no stich & no eyepad (patient wears sunglasses at the end of procedure), and is able to return home in 1-2 hours post surgery. Wide variety of choices of intraocular lens implant such as monofocal IOL, toric IOL, multifocal IOL, toric multifocal IOL, and extended vision IOL, to choose from for cataract surgery. Full time anesthetists are available throughout the surgical procedure to ensure optimal monitoring of vital parameters. Moria microkeratome system is used for donor preparation for endothelial keratoplasty & lamellar keratoplasty. Ziemer Z6 femtosecond laser is also used for laser assisted corneal transplantation surgery for increased precision and improved visual results. |
